What is reflexology?
There are mappings of the whole body on the feet, hands, ears and face in reflexology.
A reflexologist uses specific massage techniques to press the reflexes.
By stimulating these areas, it sends messages via the nervous system to the brain, and the brain responds by 'thinking' there is something happening in that particular area, so it responds to heal the area in its own natural way.
If the body has congestion, 'energy flow', (chi), cannot flow freely along the meridian pathways, so they become are blocked. By stimulating the reflexes, messages are sent to the central nervous system and it responds. This encourages the the energy to flow freely.
In Traditional Chinese medicine this is referred to as 'stagnation'. If something is 'stuck' the body cannot be healthy and is lethargic. Reflexology is an holistic therapy which encourages movement for a healthy body, and allows self healing to happen.
What happens at my first treatment?
You will be welcomed into my cosy cabin where you will be asked to fill in a short health and lifestyle questionaire which is strictly confidential. Based on this I might ask more questions about your symptoms, medication etc and I will check for any contraindications to treatment.
The treatment is applied on a couch where you can lie down and relax where I will make you feel very comfortable.
I'll explain more about how the treatment is carried out and you'll have the opportunity to ask questions before you drift off into a state of deep relaxation.

What should I wear?
The treatment will include, ankles and lower legs in a foot reflexology treatment, so I advise wearing loose fitting trousers. For facial reflexology I cover the head, face, neck and shoulders so a vest top is a good option.
Can I have a treatment with a foot condition?
On your first visit or call, I will ask if you have any conditions. If you have a small verruca for example, I may be able to work around one, but if you have a cluster of them, then treatment is necessary before a reflexology treatment can take place. The same goes for any other conditons that are infectious or need to be seen by a GP.

What does a treatment feel like?
The treatment should not feel painful or cause you any discomfort, pressure is applied at a level that it comfortable for you.
The treatment is less invasive than a massage, and many report they feel like they have had a full body massage. You might feel sensations during the treatment ranging from tingling sensations, heat, muscle release, feeling emotional, feeling tired.
Most of my clients fall asleep during the treatment which is ideal because my aim is to create a sense of deep relaxation in the body which helps the body balance itself. However, some clients like to talk during their treatment and that is ok too.

How do I pay for a treatment?
I only accept card payments via my online Sumup secure shop front. A £20 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your booking, and 48 hours is required to cancel, or rearrange. You can either pay in full, or the deposit, then balance at your appointment with me.
What should I do after a treatment?
It is best to do very little after receiving a treatment, the session will have given your body time to rebalance and begin to heal itself. By continuing to relax at home, allows more self healing, and the best chance your body has to rest and rebalance itself.
This of course isn't always possible but you will still reap the benefits from your treatment
It is important that you drink plenty of clear caffeine-free drinks afterwards, ideally water.
Treatment encourages the body to eliminate toxins, and it is necessary to flush them out. If you don't drink plenty of fluids you may experience a headache. If you do experience this, it will generally last a maximum of 24 hours.

How often should I receive treatments?
The recommendation is 4-6 weeks for chronic conditions and to receive treatments more frequently, then you can continue at ease with less frequency as you start to feel and see an improvement, this is open to discussion.
Factors that will be considered are cost, the conditions being treated, and your commitments.
Reflexology is also a wonderful treatment if you are looking for an hour of relaxation for no specific condition. Some people like to have two full hours of pure bliss with facial reflexology & foot reflexology or a combination for example, relaxing aroma massage or Indian head massage. See treatments available.
Gift vouchers are available but please make sure there are no contraindications to treatment before purchasing as a gift for someone.
